Facebook Keeps Growing and Growing
Just the other day, Mark Zuckerburg released an open letter which highlighted 2 things; the need to change some settings for everyone’s security and the fact that Facebook now has 350 million users. It’s no surprise given that Facebook is the most dominant social media network! However, come to think of it, do you think it’s just a fad waiting to die out or something that may continue to define our society for decades to come?
Lately, Twitter hasn’t been hitting its mark as experts begin to see a flattening out in its growth. Some people are wondering if Facebook is going to share the same fate too. Facebook has endured a long and arduous road on its way to success and as you see in the graph below, it has seen a phenomenal rise within the last 2 years. Rising from 100 million users to 350 million in just a year is not something you would see every day. Twitter has yet to experience a growth spurt like this.

Man was never made to be an island and the need for communication is now greater than ever. Facebook has provided the world with a fun and creative way to stay connected to friends no matter where in the world they may be. This has been one of the secrets of success in this uncanny growth and we all know it won’t stop there.
We at Smarter Social Media are projecting 500 million users by 2011 and believe that Facebook will reach 1 billion users before 2015. Given the fact that there are 6.5 billion people on the planet, and obviously more by 2015, 1 billion users may still be a conservative prediction. As internet and wireless technology advances, there are now more ways available to be online than just relying on a telephone and computer alone. By 2015, I imagine that the ways to connect will be limitless and internet access will be available just about anywhere. This will definitely allow billions more to join in and enjoy the wonders of the worldwide web.
Speaking of internet connection, how I wish I could someday access my email and Facebook account on a mobile phone while I’m on the slopes of the Himalayas. At the rate that wireless internet technology is advancing, that dream may soon become reality.

I think it’s just a fad.
Facebook will never reach that goal in 2015! I’m going to rule the blogosphere at that time. Watch out, my social site is about to be launched!
Is it really that fast?
Personally, I think the shine of Facebook will soon be out just like the other social media sites.
I actually think it has started already because of all the legal issues it is facing right now.
I’m not surprised. Facebook will just get bigger. It’s proven to be more effective as marketing tool and best for networking. Take that Twitter! They have all the good stuff! Remember, they can even connect you with dead people. lol! Angelo, I think, you’re way too old for Facebook.
well, a billion users is already a generous prediction. not all 6.6billion people have internet access. fads have a one-time use only. facebook isn’t one of them. it’s ingenuity in connecting people from all across the planet is a major feat.
Fad is for clothing and style. Facebook is not a fad, it is here to stay. I do disagree however about your predictions – i don’t think facebook will ever reach 1 billion people.
